Located within walking distance, east of downtown, no neighborhood in the city has a more active sidewalk scene, day or night, than Broadway, Capitol Hill's version of Main Street.  The neighborhood figures prominently in nightlife and entertainment.  Most of the Hill's major thoroughfares are dotted with coffee houses, taverns, restaurants bars and boutiques  With a rich and diverse history Capitol Hill has been a bastion of arts and culture.  Educational institutions enliven this neighborhood's life, with Seattle University, Seattle Community College and Cornish College of the Arts, all located here.  Volunteer Park is the gem of Capitol Hill with spacious grounds, tennis courts, play areas, Asian Art Museum and the conservatory.  Residences cover the gameut from modest  apartment buildings, chic new condominiums, lofts, big old houses and the city's grandest mansions.
